Description
This is an account of the famous case of William Windham that kept Victorian England enthralled. William Frederick Windham, of Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk married infamous Rotten Row courtesan Agnes Willoughby lavishing her with expensive jewels and gifts as well as a very generous annual annuity. Williams uncle, worried about the damage to the family name, the motivations of Agnes Willoughby and the family fortune decide there was only one course of action, to prove in court his nephew was insane. In the ensuing court case William’s mental state was dissected by a Commission in Lunacy where they were given examples of his behaviour all reported in the national press. This enthralling book takes the reader takes through the notorious story to its conclusion.
