Description
Woodbridge artist Michael Coulter has been painting the seaside for more than three decades. During this period the sands of time have brought change both to the subject and to the artist’s work. Early influences Ravilious, Bawden and Burra shaped his output in the 1970s and 80s, becoming absorbed into his own distinctive style in the 1990s as his inspiration and output soared after his retirement from teaching.
Coulter’s Coast contains more than 150 of Michael Coulter’s glorious watercolour images of coastal and seaside scenes. The portfolio goes back to the very beginning of his painting career in the 1960s while teaching art at Woolverstone School, right through to pictures completed in 2018. While there is a strong emphasis on Suffolk and Norfolk, this volume also features scenes of Essex, Sussex, Kent, Dorset, Cornwall and even Ireland.
