Cromer

Description

In the Domesday Book there is no mention of Cromer, only the parish of Shipden.  Anything that remains of Shipden now lies under the North Sea, and the present town of Cromer has replaced it.  This booklet traces the history of Cromer from its earliest origins as Shipden, through it’s development, first as a port, trading coal and grain, then as a holiday resort.  This sixth edition brings the story up to date for the 21st century.

About the Author

When Cromer Museum opened in 1976, Martin Warren became its first permanent curator. He served in that office for over 20 years before taking on a wider responsibility within the Norfolk Museums Service.  Fortunately he has brought together his wide knowledge of the history of Cromer in a number of publications.
