Description
Discover some of Great Britain’s most important ancient monuments and archaeological sites with Ordnance Survey’s map of Ancient Britain.
This map and guide features a selection of the most significant, best preserved and most accessible monuments, chosen to represent the range of archaeological remains that can be visited with the aid of this map.
Each archaeological period is identified using different symbols and colours to show sites from the Stone Age through to the early Middle Ages against a modern map base, double-sided to cover the whole country. The historical map and guide is complemented by a timescale that shows British events in relation to wider history. Key sites of significant historical interest are highlighted using photographs, text and thumbnail mapping from the OS Landranger map series. Additional information, such as a list of archaeological terms, suggested reading and museums to visit is also included.
Produced in association with Historic England and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.
