Chris Spalton tells the stories of his own father in graphic novel style, with his own illustrations and photographs.

Description

Eels have been caught in the Fens of East Anglia for hundreds of years, with generations of Fen-folk passing down this ancient tradition to their descendants. Gradually however, the art of hunting these slippery creatures has been lost to the very wetlands from which it was born. Only one individual remains on the front line, in the ditches and drains of those miserable marshes – and that individual is Spalt the Eelman.

The Eelman Chronicles is a document of Spalt’s most peculiar life and adventures in the Fens. These are stories of an underdog, doing his best to make a meagre living in the remote wilds – and encountering a rag-tag assortment of minor celebrities, royals and criminals along the way.  These are stories of facing the world with determination, a smile on your face, and an openess to engage with all aspects of the hand that life deals you – however downright weird. Ultimately, these are stories of oddball skirmishes, lo-fi japes and buffoonery.

The Eelman Chronicles are the single most original and jaw dropping comics I’ve ever read.  They are the purest most concentrated example of what comics should be I’ve ever seenSteve Robinson, otherwoldsthanthese.co.uk
