Description
Robert Simper first wrote about this area in 1968, in Woodbridge and Beyond. Written some 40 years later, this book takes a fresh look at the town of Woodbridge and the area towards the sea bounded by the Deben in the South and the Alde in the north.
Every town and village on the Suffolk coast possesses its own strong identity. Orford still has a strong sense of being coastal Suffolk, although a great many new people have moved in. Aldeburgh is a place where the people who have moved in demand high standards, but are quite happy to pay for them. The great difference between 1968 and 2008 is that there are fewer folk to learn from who have been born and bred in the area. Fortunately Robert has recorded in his notebooks many details of events which would otherwise have been forgotten.
The author’s in depth knowledge and love of this area comes through in the text that combines the history of the area with anecdotal stories he’s gathered over the years, and is copiously illustrated with his colour photographs.
