Life Changing

By David North | Softback | 256 pages | £16.95 | ISBN 9781739714475

A year in the life of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Cley & Salthouse Marshes nature reserve through the eyes of author David North. His observations guide readers through the landscape, wildlife and changing seasons of the 100-year-old reserve on the North Norfolk coast. Copious artwork, supplied by 26 artists, is used to illustrate the species observed at the reserve and the natural beauty of the location.

There is a chapter for each month, unusually starting in September to coincide with the arrival of the pink-footed geese. David’s observations are expressed in gentle prose – so much more than a list of birds: the reader can feel the weather, the light and the sounds as he experienced them. In addition, panels of ‘The Knowledge’ explain the terms used, the natural history and the background. This is a book to be enjoyed by enthusiast and casual nature lover alike.

This 256-page softback book was written and produced in Norfolk, and printed in the UK on paper from responsible sources.

Foreword by Patrick Barkham, NWT President, and cover by the late Robert Gillmor MBE.

“This book will enable you to inhabit [Cley] and understand it as David does. …[it] shows what I most love about Cley”
Patrick Barkham, Norfolk Wildlife Trust President and Guardian columnist.

Every place has a strange side – the eccentric characters, the odd events, the buildings and back-stories that don’t make the official guidebooks. Amberley’s new Quirky series goes looking for exactly that: four new East Anglian titles on Norwich, King’s Lynn, Lowestoft and Ipswich.

Down to Earth: New book from Robert Ashton

Robert Ashton traces our evolving relationship with the soil from Neolithic flint miners to modern day naturists by engaging with the people who work the land – gardeners, farmers, gravediggers and archaeologists.
