Description

Join Emelia Moorgrim and her cat, Monty Marmalade, as they courageously use their time-travel watch to journey through history, untangle mysteries and find the monsters before they cause too much trouble:

  • The Swirly Whily Curly Firework Bird
  • The Sneaky Sea Snake
  • the Prickly Tricky Truffle Trixter
  • the Mean Lean Mud Wriggler
  • the Pesky Busy Buzz Fuzzer
  • the Grumpy Glumpy Frog

Their home is a medieval book in a museum – the Norfolk Heritage Centre in Norwich.  Rumour has it that sometimes the book rumbles and the monsters roar from the pages and spring out to cause a fright!

Inspired by items at Norfolk Heritage Centre and Norfolk landmarks, this book adventures through the ages – each chapter is rooted in historical fact along with the fictional monsters.   Perfect for primary age children for self-reading or bedtime stories.

About The Author

Hi there, my name is Isabelle King. I’m a Storyteller, Producer and creative writing tutor based in Norfolk.

My children’s books encourage families and schools to engage with local history and museums in a fun and imaginative way.

Here’s a review for Emelia Moorgrim and the Medieval Monsters of Norfolk by Award-winning children’s author Ben Manley.

Emelia’s adventures are fast-paced and told with energy and humour. A light, zany romp that also manages to make a case for the importance of storytelling and imagination in communicating history to future generations.

I have produced storytelling activities and educational resources, aimed for family & school audiences for the National Centre for Writing and for Humanists UK. As a former Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador I represented The Trust at The Business Book Awards 2018, having undertaken the enterprise programme with Books Talk Back.  Books Talk Back is a grassroots initiative of literary events and workshops that connect emerging and established authors, showcase fresh voices and offer a relaxed, supportive space for constructive critique and the eating of biscuits.

My background is in theatre where I could be seen in various Shakespearian guises. Due to a keen interest in literature and social history, I have since worked as a Bookseller for Waterstones in Norwich and in Visitor Services for Norfolk Museums Service.

My writing draws from historical objects and archives to bring history to life through storytelling and explore how people have related to their environments throughout time. I also run workshops because I would like people to enjoy storytelling as much as I do!
