It’s a Thing... is a collection of humorous drawings and wry personal observations compiled into a small, but perfectly formed book.
Jessica Perry’s love of the doodle, the throwaway receipt and the fold-out flap is now assembled as 48 pages of annotated drawings, each taking a sideways look at events as seen through the eyes of a rather self-absorbed and sarcastic cat (aren’t they all?). It took shape in 2020, describing one year of annoyance, boredom, laziness and confinement, alleviated occasionally with pleasant self-indulgence and mischief.
The cat itself emerged as a corner-of-the-page doodle, one that would reappear during PowerPoint training sessions and long phone calls, gradually becoming a fully-formed ‘Thing’ in its own right. These cats explore the characters of each cats Jessica has known, along with her own outlook on the comedy of everyday situations.
The illustrations and texts led the way for Jessica to develop this as her first original book, which then opened the hatch for her second book describing the quirks of underground life in ‘Gone To Ground’.
This is a WONDERFUL gift idea. The book is beautiful and so funny. The only problem now is I can’t give it away. Absolute delight. Thank you.

Jessica Perry drew from an early age and went on to study at Norwich School of Art. She is a freelance artist, illustrator and inveterate maker of all sorts of things, living in Norfolk.
