Description

Seventy eight great houses of Norfolk (perhaps more), many of architectural importance and standing in parks with long drives guarded by lodges, have been largely erased from the landscape and to all intents, never existed.  How can it be, that there were times not long past, when these houses were unwanted, left in disrepair and eventually demolished?

Author David Clarke has undertaken years of research to document these houses and list them in this book.  First published in 2008 and long out of print ‘Lost Country Houses of Norfolk’ has now been re-published in a revised edition with an additional 25 major houses that have been demolished within the last 50 years.  For each house there is a short history and in most cases a photograph or illustration.

This book provides a fascinating insight into these houses and is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the great houses of Norfolk and the families that lived in them.
