The Magpie's Nest

Lots of stuff added to our range this month – not all newly published but titles that complement our existing stock.  In fact there is so much, this is probably going to stretch to two posts this month!  And please scroll all the way to the bottom to see new releases from Poppyland and LM West.

Fully illustrated with colour photographs throughout, this book explores the differing personalities of birds and how big data and citizen scientists are helping to add to what we know about them. Springboard to Victory

Great Yarmouth is best known for being a seaside resort and for its former status as the country’s leading herring fising port, but what has largely been forgotten is that during the French Revolutionary War (1793-1802) and the two Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) it was the main support base for naval and military operations in the North Sea and the Baltic.  Derived from primary source material, Springboard to Victory documents this important period of naval history and the role of Great Yarmouth in supporting the fleet.

Coming Soon

Two exciting new books expected to land in our store in the next couple of weeks.  The Red Barn is the latest historical novel from LM West.  In a slight shift from her previous books based on Suffolk witch trials, The Red Barn re-imagines a mystery from the 19th century, but as ever, told from the woman’s point of view.

And Fishermen, Bathers and Beachfolk is a wonderful collection of hand-coloured sketches of Cromer life in the 1880s by Juliet Seebohm.  These delightful images have never been widely published before and are accompanied by the Helen Murray’s research into the lives of the individuals depicted.  Both available to pre-order now.
