New Books and Tide Tables

T’is the season – for new books.  As always at this time of year there is a rush of new books hitting the shelves as publishers gear up for the Christmas season.  I know there are more on the way but here are the first few.  And we now have our 2024 Tide Times booklets available so if you’re not interested in Christmas, you can start planning next year’s coastal trips!

Big Cats in Suffolk

Some years ago journalist Matt Salusbury started investigating rumours he’d heard about ‘big cats’ roaming the fields and woodlands of Suffolk.  Over the years it has become something of a passion, and in this book he explores not only sightings of mysterious large animals, but also mythical and legendary creatures of Suffolk, such as the famous black dog Black Shuck, woodwoses and serpents.  In all cases, Matt treats the reports with a healthy degree of scepticism and humour, but the reader is certainly left to wonder about the shadowy movement seen from the corner of the eye!

A book of strange and yet-to-be-identified animals, animal folklore and tradition from the region briefly known as the Curious County – including an account of over 150 mystery big cat sightings.

Ketteringham: A Norfolk Country Estate

If you even know of Ketteringham it is probably as a small village alongside the A11 between Wymondham and Norwich.   Or perhaps as the former base of the Lotus Formula 1 team.  But the estate has a fascinating history and is well documented.  Robert Sharpe, who has lived in the village for 37 years, has delved into the records to produce this interesting and readable book.

A Norfolk Country Estate

Robert Sharpe’s research tells the fascinating story of Ketteringham—a tale of politics, the death and saviour of kings, Victorian paternalism and home to racing innovation.
