The DVD Crabs and Shannocks tells the story of the mariners of North Norfolk from Saxon times to the present day, with much of the story told by today’s fishermen. We’ve been able to bring together historic photos, archive recordings on film and tape, historic documents and specially created animations to help recount this aspect of life on the Norfolk coast. The daily hunt for crabs and lobsters remains at the heart of the community; the boats are at sea at first light and returning to the beaches with their catch as the rest of the town stirs into life.
