Description
Hodskinson’s map of Suffolk is a complete map of the county, first published over 240 years ago in 1783. This edition reproduces the map in book form to its original scale of one mile to the inch. As Suffolk historian David Dymond writes in his introduction:
“It is an indispensable control or framework for the topographical history of Suffolk, for it gives us the best impression we have of the traditional patterns of the county, to a large extent meieval in origin, before the impact of greater industrialization, accelerated population growth and improved communications.
This is how Suffolk was before major roads, before railways and largely before enclosures. Everyone who loves the county should keep a copy of this map.
