There’s always a demand from visitors to our beautiful counties for souvenir books – books that illustrate the area to take home as gifts, or just to keep as a reminder of a wonderful holiday. At one end of the market, Salmon (of postcard fame) always used to publish a collection of their rather dated postcards, and there are one or two other low cost booklets around. At the other extreme are expensive collections of photographs and art, that might grace the coffee tables in fine houses. But there always seems to be a gap in the middle – something attractive and well designed that doesn’t cost the earth.
Mascot Media have successfully filled this gap with two books in their ‘A Postcard From …’ series, covering the Norfolk Broads and Southwold respectively. They each contain a beautiful collection of photographs and artwork in an A5 sized, landscape format book printed on quality silk finished paper at the very accessible price point of £12.95.
These aren’t just collections of postcard reprints: although they do contain some reproductions of vintage postcards, they also contain many original contemporary photographs by the author and a selection of artwork of the area, mostly taken from other Mascot Media books.
As with all of Alan Marshall’s books, these two are elegantly designed and produced to the highest quality. For the most part, Alan lets the pictures do the talking, but there is a short text introduction to each section. These are great value for money and I’m sure they will both sell well in their respective geographies.
