We’re all back after Christmas and the New Year and I hope you had a good one.  If you are a retailer, I’m sure you will have sold all your stock and be ready to buy lots of new books, and if you are one of our direct customers, perhaps you didn’t get the book you wanted for Christmas.  Anyway we’ve got some exciting new titles arriving, plus a few that arrived in December, just missing our last newsletter.

The Troubled Deep may be the start of a new crime thriller series set in the Norfolk Broads, by author Rob Parker .  For ex-marine and ex-SBS officer, Cam Killick, PTSD has made the return to civilian life a living nightmare. The only place he can find peace is underwater, where the world is muffled to white noise. As a cold case diver it is his job to scour the waterways of the country for the lost, the submerged, the drowned, laying their stories to rest alongside them.

When Cam discovers the sunken car in the waterways of the Broads, he thinks it will be the end of the story for a family missing for thirty years.  But it’s only the beginning…

The Troubled Deep is published on the 16th January in hardback and is available to pre-order now.

Ann Quinton was just five years old in 1939 and this story of a child’s experience of the war and growing up as a teenager in the post-war years in Ipswich is based on her own life.  Ann, who has just had her 90th brthday, wrote more than a dozen crime and historical romance novels in the 1980s and 90s, but this book has taken a while to surface.  Something Momentous is a worthy addition to Suffolk literature and also has some historical value in its telling of Ipswich wartime life.

Heather Peck‘s Norfolk detective Greg Geldard gets another outing in Buried in the Past.  This is number seven in a series which I really enjoy. Heather’s books always seem well researched with a realistic portrayal of police work. The locations are all local around Norfolk and the Broads, and accurately depicted.  Add to that a good mystery, some serious organised crime and a few social issues and you have a gripping read.

As I’m sure anyone reading this already knows, East Anglia has a rich literary heritage – from Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich in the Middle Ages, through Anna Sewell, Charles Dickens and George Orwell, to modern writers who have graduated from the University of East Anglia, such as Rose Tremain and Ian McEwan.  In this new book, local author Christopher Reeve works through the counties of the region and the connections to the many writers who have lived in or written about East Anglia.

Wacton Hall is near Long Stratton in Norfolk, and was acquired by the Mallom family, descendants of the Sheltons and Boleyns, in 1672.  Captain John Mallom (1742-82), who is the focus of this book, fought in the American War of Independence.  In Captain Mallom of Wacton Hall, David Large also explores the history of the family.
