In a week when close to 2000 new books were published, I’m a little hesitant about adding to your pile, but we’ve had a few new ones from self-published authors as well as from mainstream publishers, so here goes.  Oh, and our 2025 Tide Times booklets are now available.

Jessica Perry

Jessica Perry is a local artist from Aylsham in North Norfolk who has produced two delightful books of her drawings with brief humourous writings.  It’s a Thing… sees the world through the eyes of a rather self-absorbed and sarcastic cat (aren’t they all?) while Gone to Ground looks into the world of a mole that seems to listen to BBC Radio 4 and has a particular fascination with the shipping forecast.  These make great Christmas gifts.

Friendly rivalry?

Rivalry between nearby communities is not unknown, but it can get out of hand.  In this humourous tale, two fictional North Norfolk villages compete in the Best Kept Village competition.  I’m sure many readers will recognise some of these character traits in people from their own local communities!  Another good stocking filler.

Some villages will do anything to win ...

The villages of East and West Barton are fierce rivals in The Best Kept Village Competition. Then wanton acts of vandalism to both villages mysteriously start to occur …

A stately home rises again

Norwich bookshop owner, David Clarke, has written previous books on about Norfolk’s stately homes, now mostly out of print, and this one started, like many other books, during the Covid lockdown.  Copious research using books in his own collection, Norfolk Records Office and other sources has resulted in this fascinating history of the little known Bylaugh Hall near Dereham, how it fell into ruin and then was rebuilt and refurbished into its current condition.
